Few Days in Amazing Kuala Lumpur

Hey hey!!

After traveling by boat and buses from Ko Phangan, Jimmy and I were glad to end up in Malaysia. Unfortunately we only had a few days in Kuala Lumpur as we had to leave for the Philippines on August 8. But hopefully we can stop by on the way back to England in September.

My first impressions of the city was how modern and Western it was, not only the buildings and surroundings (it's surprisingly clean) but the people as well. Malaysia consists predominately of Muslims, I therefore thought that the culture would be more conservative than other south east Asian countries. But the people here seem to socialize with one another, regardless of their religion, nationality and social class. Malaysians are very friendly and they were also engaging me in conversations. In Cambodia and Laos in particular, men spoke primarily to Jimmy (simply because he is a man). They probably did not intend to ignore me as such, but this says a lot about the gender roles within society. Moreover, they rather value friendship with other men than an intimate relationship with a partner... That is why they spend more time drinking with their mates than spending time at home with their wives. Anyways, it was the first time in a long time where I felt equal to Jimmy as the Malaysians were talking and joking with both of us. We felt very welcome here.

The hotel was amazing! We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel near the Twin Towers. The service was great and it has an impressive breakfast buffet :)

Jimmy and I mainly stayed at shopping malls, we arrived just in time for the Mega Sale! However, we did manage to do a bit of sightseeing.

There are some unique taxis in KL. As you can see this driver collects coins. He told us about a 140 year old coin he got from a Chinese tourist.

Me and the legendary potato milkshake hehe. Unfortunately I don't remember what it's called. I thought it was nice and sweet but Jimmy did not like it after knowing that it was made of Malaysian potatoes.
